Brazil passed the baton for holding the WMC 2018 to Kazakhstan
On October 21 in Rio de Janeiro the solemn transfer of the traditional symbol of the World Mining Congress – “Oil Lamp” and the baton for the right to host the WMC to Kazakhstan was held.
Jose Fernando Coura, Head of the Brazilian Mining Association, Jair Carlos Koppe, Chairman of the WMC 2016 (Brazil), Joseph Dubinsky, Chairman of the WMC (Poland), Murilo Ferreira, CEO of VALE, Kanat Baitov Active Member of the IOC WMC, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Industrial Development and Industrial Safety of the Ministry of Investments and Development of the RK gave official speech at the Ceremony.
“For Kazakhstan the mining and metallurgical complex is one of the key areas of the economy. In total structure of industrial production the MMC accounts for 18%. For this very reason holding the World Mining Congress in 2018 in Astana is the most important event for us, which will certainly have a positive impact on the whole sector of the country. I am confident that drawing on our experience and knowledge gained today, we will be able to hold the WMC 2018 at the highest international level”, - said Kanat Baitov at the closing ceremony of the WMC.
Also, at the closing ceremony of the WMC Professor Joseph Dubinsky, who has visited Kazakhstan twice, in particular, the International Mining and Metallurgical Congress “Astana Mining & Metallurgy”, expressed confidence that Kazakhstan will successfully hold the World Mining Congress 2018. In addition, the WMC 2018, which will be held in Astana, will combine two important dates: the 25th time of holding and the 60th Anniversary of the Congress.
At the end of the ceremony “Oil Lamp” - the traditional symbol of the WMC was handed over by the Head of the Brazilian Mining Association Jose Fernando Coura to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Sarzhanov.
In the framework of the World Mining Congress 2016 a number of bilateral meetings were held, during which the participants discussed technological issues of the MMC and introduced know-how, as well as economic issues – company management, international funding and cooperation. The Kazakh delegation included the representatives of government institutions of Kazakhstan, institutes, large specialized companies of the mining sector, as well as Iteca Exhibition Company, which, in turn, is an operator of the WMC 2018.
“Holding such important events is becoming particularly relevant for us. After all, here we are offered the opportunities to find potential investors and to study the latest achievements in the industry. In addition, we have the possibility to tell a wide range of specialist of the mining industry about our activities and success. The main purpose of our visit is to develop cooperation and exchange experiences between the countries and companies in the sphere of geology and subsoil use. We are open to dialogue to increase international cooperation in the sphere of geology and offer investors attractive projects to be implemented in Kazakhstan, taking into account the vast territory and great potential of our country’s mineral resources; today there is a true perspective for the discovery of dozens of large deposits, among which there may be unique ones. As a result of our meetings with major global corporations as “Anglo-American” (Great Britain), “Vale” (Brazil) and “NMDC” (India) an agreement on further cooperation on the territory of Kazakhstan was reached”,- said Galym Nurzhanov, Chairman of the Board of “Kazgeology” JSC in the interview.
We would like to remind that on June 19-22, 2018 Astana will host the 25th World Mining Congress. The event will take place on the basis of the annual International Mining and Metallurgical Congress “Astana Mining & Metallurgy”.
